SIAMS
SIAMS stands for the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools.
It is a specific inspection framework in the United Kingdom designed to evaluate the distinctiveness and effectiveness of Church of England and Methodist schools. While Ofsted focuses on general academic standards and safeguarding, SIAMS focuses on how the school’s Christian vision impacts the lives of the pupils and the community.
Core Focus Areas
A SIAMS inspection evaluates one primary question: How effective is the school’s distinctive Christian vision, established and promoted by leadership at all levels, in enabling pupils and adults to flourish?
To answer this, inspectors look at several key strands:
-
Vision and Leadership: How well the school’s theological base drives its priorities and daily life.
-
Wisdom, Knowledge, and Skills: How the curriculum reflects the school's Christian character.
-
Character Development: The focus on "Spiritual Development" and how it helps students grow beyond just academic testing.
-
Community and Living Well Together: The quality of relationships, inclusion, and how the school handles diversity.
-
Dignity and Respect: How the school prevents bullying and ensures everyone feels valued.
-
Collective Worship: The impact of daily prayer or worship on the school community.
-
Religious Education (RE): The effectiveness of the teaching and learning in RE classes.
